This beautifully crafted workshop will journey through the inspiring qigong forms of autumn, tuning into qigong breath work and movements that mirror this season’s quiet descent inward. Autumn is the season when nature gently releases all it has grown, it’s a final seasonal love affair with the plant life which has flourished above the ground.

Qigong is a skilful practice rooted in the wisdom of Classical Chinese Medicine and Daoist traditions. It is a way of cultivating and balancing Qi, the vital energy within the body to help support health, harmony, and well-being. At its heart, qigong is an art of moving with inner strength and awareness, while exuding outer softness, and mindful alignment.

Qigong is a profound and wise practice for honouring the seasonal cycles. In autumn, it guides us into the beginning of descent, a turning inward toward what is hidden, deep, transformative,

and quietly beautiful.

Throughout the workshop we will take time to develop the forms while growing an embodied understanding of why and how we practice this ancient martial foundation to align with the seasons. Autumn practice being a time to support lung health, clarity of mind and letting go.

There will be plenty of space for discussion, questions, and reflections, so if you’re new or seasoned to qigong, you’ll feel comfortable and at home. If the weather is good we will practice in the beautiful gardens at the venue.

In Classical Chinese Medicine and the Five Element tradition, autumn is associated with metal, the element of clarity, structure, and release. Like the sharp edge of a samurai sword, metal embodies a kind and skilful severing: the ability to cut away what is no longer needed in order to reveal form and purpose. Just as trees release their leaves and plants withdraw energy from stem to root, this season invites us to let go of old habits, burdens, and stagnant emotions, creating space for stillness, renewal, and the brightness of what is yet to come.

Workshop Details:

We will explore qigong forms that nurture the qualities of the metal element which is connecting with our innate strength, dignity, clarity, boundaries, and courage. We will foster feeling through movement, breath, and visualisation.

Placing particular emphasis on the lungs and large intestine, the organs associated with the autumn metal phase, to help support and strengthen our breath, immunity, and a natural ability to let go. The lungs are especially important during autumn, a season when the air cools and colds / viruses become more common. Qigong practices at this time help to strengthen and support the lungs, our first line of defence. The lungs are the only organ directly connected to the outside world, also reminding us to the sacred source of each breath.

We will take time to experience standing meditation, cultivating its quiet strength and grounding presence. For those new to this practice, there will be the option to alternate between sitting and standing, making it easy to settle in with kindness.

The workshop will conclude with a flowing guided qigong sequence, seamlessly weaving together the forms and insights we have explored, leaving you grounded, clear, and attuned to the rhythm of the season.

I hope to see you there.
